Zhouzhuang originally built in 1086, is just like a shining pearl among Shanghai, it’s surrounded by water and boats are needed even for short distance and streets are connected with each other, which is typical of “small bridges, running water and family homes” of a water town in the south of lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The town is well known both at home and abroad for its preservation of numerous buildings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Zhouzhuang has become the treasure of oriental culture and the outstanding representative of water town in the south for its one-thousand-year history, rich Wu culture and beautiful water town scene.
It worth to visit while in Shanghai but I just found the entrance fee bit high cost CNY100 per person otherwish it's the best place I have seen so close to Shanghai so far!
